The Glen Davis Shale Oil Works, located in the Capertee Valley, was one of the largest employers in the area. Producing gasoline, the operation was an important strategic resource during the war era. Vertical sandstone cliffs stand guard over the crumbling vegetation covered structures lending a surreal impression.

Mungo National Park is one of Australia’s richest archaeological finds. The archaeological treasures of Mungo Man and Mungo Woman were found at Mungo National Park and are carbon dated to over 40,000 years old. Many of the archaeological treasures have been exposed at Mungo through natural erosion rather than by means of organised archaeological exploration. Ancient artefacts, plant matter and animal bones can be found in their natural habitat along the ‘Great Walls of China’- an amazing 33 kilometre stretch of Australian sand dunes and lunettes, formed by centuries of sand storms.
Gooree’s origins date back some 40 + years when Filipino businessman Eduardo Cojuangco realised his agricultural dreams purchasing three historic local properties and a place to call home in Australia, with the agglomeration known as “GooreePark” being formed. The Berida Wool shed gives people a glimpse into the history of the Australian wool industry. Upon entering the wool shed, which was built in 1899, visitors see a range of historic memorabilia, including photos, letter and antique farm equipment. The historic settlement of Hartley is a well- preserved site of colonial-era buildings, including the Greek Revival-styled Courthouse, which once collected bushrangers, convicts and cattle thieves.
